Long gone is the myth that different wood colors shouldn’t be combined – after all, an interior filled with wooden accents looks exceptionally cozy and stylish. If you want wooden furniture and accessories to dominate your decor, nothing prevents it, but it’s important to adhere to a few basic principles. What are they? Find out more on our blog.
Wood is a unique material. It has always been popular for both finishing interiors and as a decorative material. No wonder – wood is exceptionally versatile, durable, and beautiful, and it adds warmth to any space, making it cozier.
Currently, wood is used in countless ways – you can find wooden floors, frames, furniture, and various accessories in stores. However, a question arises: can different shades and types of wood complement each other? Absolutely! We'll show you how to combine wood so that your arrangement looks cohesive and stylish.
Combining different types of wood
This unique material is truly one-of-a-kind – literally! Each tree has its own specific color and distinctive grain. Additionally, every piece of wood is characterized by unique knots and cracks that give it a special character. At Table4U, the uniqueness of our furniture is even more emphasized – all our products are handmade, making each piece one-of-a-kind.
When selecting furniture and accessories, the first thing to consider is the shade of the wood. We must decide on a cool or warm tone. Combining these two different tones won’t give us a satisfactory effect.

In the case of very similar colors, it’s advisable to diversify the composition in terms of the size and pattern of wood grain. If our floor has large and distinct grain, it’s best for the furniture to have a subtle grain, and vice versa. Successfully, native wood species can also be combined with their exotic variants, paying attention to their shades. Oak flooring and Table4U furniture made of Indian mango wood – that’s a perfect match!
Another aspect worth considering is the type of wood finish. Surfaces of this material can be varnished, oiled, or waxed. It’s good to keep this in mind when choosing furniture to ensure that the selected products have a similar finish, e.g., raw.
Combining different wood colors and types does not mean using all available possibilities. It’s safest to use 2 to 3 different wood species.
Proven solutions
Dark floors and light furniture – it's a perfect duo that works in any room and style. Whether in a living room, bedroom, or even a bathroom, a deep-colored floor will be an ideal backdrop for lighter accents.
White wood has gained more and more fans recently. White wall panels and flooring in the same color allow you to complement the decor with furniture in any wood color, and the effect will always be the same – stunning. This solution is most commonly found in Scandinavian-style interiors, so if you dream of a space that captures the spirit of the peninsula, it's worth considering this option.
By following these principles, you don’t have to fear a failed arrangement. It’s worth experimenting because the effect can be truly breathtaking!
