Light mango wood is one of the materials we use in creating furniture at table4u. We know that, like us, you love this wood for its unique appearance. However, its benefits go beyond just looks. That's why we want to tell you about the good things behind mango wood.

Sustainable Mango Wood Sourcing

If we were to choose one thing that would receive the label "main advantage of Indian mango wood" from us, it would definitely be its environmental friendliness. Our furniture is made in India, where mango is a pillar of agro-culture, mainly due to its fruits. India is the leading producer, yielding over 20 million tons of mangoes annually, accounting for nearly 50% of global production! To remain useful for agriculture, mango trees must bear fruit. This process stops between the 10th and 15th year of the tree's life. After this time, the trees become "useless" from an agricultural perspective and for the local economy. Therefore, every few years, farmers plant new trees and use the old ones for wood. This way, mango plantations maintain their productivity, and sustainably sourced wood can be used to create furniture like ours. Win-win!

Durability of Mango Wood

Another strong (literally) point of mango wood is its durability. This is due to its dense grain structure, directly impacting its hardness and resistance to damage. Thanks to this, mango wood is excellent for producing furniture that needs to bear heavier weights, such as tables, chests of drawers, or shelves. The use of solid mango wood furniture also ensures durability. This wood wears slowly and retains its original properties, including a high gloss, for many years. Of course, proper care and the environment in which the furniture resides are important factors. Mango wood possesses natural water-resistant properties, but such furniture enjoys the longest lifespan indoors.

Fun Fact: The hardness of mango wood measures 1070 on the Janka hardness scale, one of the popular methods for testing wood hardness. In this classification, mango ranks just behind oak (1112), which is more traditional but far less environmentally friendly. As mentioned earlier, mango reaches maturity within 10-15 years. Oak, in comparison, takes between 50 to 100 years.

Malleability of Mango Wood

This is an obvious advantage, especially for craftsmen who create our furniture. Despite its hardness, mango wood is soft enough to allow relatively easy and enjoyable workmanship. It is not prone to cracking or splintering and is an excellent material for hand processing, such as ours. Unique Appearance of Mango Wood

It's undeniable that furniture we buy for our homes should satisfy our aesthetic needs as well as offer functionality and durability. Mango wood's natural color is a wonderful golden brown. It makes you want to sing "golden brown, texture like sun!" because different varieties of this tree also produce wood in more yellow, sunny shades. Mango wood has natural hues resulting from its contact with fungi (a process known as spalting). Sound uninviting? It shouldn't! Craftsmen worldwide seek out wood marked by this process because spalting results in beautiful and unique colors and patterns. Moreover, fungi do not affect the integrity of the wood. After processing and drying, they leave behind only delightful visual attributes.
